THE STORY OF SAFFRON EYECARE

Data Protection and GDPR Compliance

How Saffron Eyecare Handles and Protects Your Information

At Saffron Eyecare, we are dedicated to delivering the best possible eye care to every patient. To do this effectively, we need to maintain accurate records about you, your health, and the care you receive. We take our responsibilities around data protection seriously and ensure your information is stored securely at all times.

The records we keep may include:

  • Basic personal details such as your name, date of birth, address, and next of kin;

  • Your spectacle or contact lens prescriptions;

  • Information on any glasses or contact lenses supplied to you;

  • Notes on your eye health and any relevant medical history;

  • Records of medications prescribed by your doctor;

  • Information provided by other healthcare professionals involved in your care.

We keep these records to ensure continuity of care and to maintain a clear picture of your eye health over time.

When We Share Your Information

As a rule, your information stays confidential within Saffron Eyecare. We will only share it if:

  • You ask us to do so;

  • You give explicit permission;

  • We are legally required to do so, or there is an overriding public interest (e.g., safeguarding concerns).#

Typical examples might include sharing details with your GP, hospital specialists, or other healthcare providers—but only with your consent unless legally required. Anyone we share data with is also bound by strict confidentiality laws.

Access to Prescriptions and Records

After your eye examination or contact lens fitting, you have the right to request a copy of your prescription. Duplicate copies can be provided, though:

  • They must be signed by the prescribing optician, which may mean a short delay if the optician is not present;

  • We do not give details over the phone for security and accuracy reasons;

  • We will never release your information to a third party without your written consent.

Your Rights Under Data Protection Law

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;

  • Ask for inaccuracies to be corrected;

  • Request, in certain circumstances, that your data be deleted.

All personal data we collect is held lawfully, used only for legitimate purposes, and kept as accurate and up to date as possible.

Appointment Reminders and Marketing

We may occasionally contact you to remind you about appointments. If you consent, we may also send information about promotions or events at Saffron Eyecare. You can opt out of these communications at any time.

How to Request Access to Your Data

To access your personal records, please make a written request. We may charge a small fee if you require duplicate copies. We aim to respond within 21 days of receiving your request.

Medical records such as prescriptions are retained for at least seven years as required by law. If you wish to have your data deleted after this period, we will remove it upon written request, unless there is a lawful reason to keep it.
